Welcome Back No-Problem Parents!
Do your kids believe you will follow through when you redirect them? Do they believe you mean what you say? Or, maybe you set a limit, redirect or give a consequence to your child and they misbehave anyway? Maybe they laugh at you, run the other way when you call them or wet noodle to the floor, throw a tantrum and pull out all the stops to get you to give in?
The Sit in the Chair technique is for kids under 5 years old and its designed to stop an unwelcome behavior and helps your child reset without lecturing, yelling, or explaining. They learn that you mean what you say when you are able to follow through without frustration no matter how defiant they become and then.....they begin to trust you. The technique also helps your kiddo think before they act in future situations where they would otherwise be impulsive.
Be sure to plan to have a support person with you the first time you try this technique, and that you have enough time to follow through in case your kiddo challenges your direction.
This matter of fact, cause and effect technique helps your child problem solve without verbal explanations and teaches them to make good decisions on their own, from the inside out.
