Welcome Back, Parents! Today's episode is about creating confidence in your kids by speaking their language through play and movement!
We talk about the importance of asking questions vs giving answers, preparing our kids rather than protecting them from hard experiences, and 3 Key things that all kids need:
- to be self-aware
- others aware
- responsible decision makers
Meet Curt Jordan,
In 2016, after teaching kids for 15 years, Curt used all his savings to buy a van and parkour equipment and started his quest to empower kids to become physically and emotionally stronger.
Curt is the Founder and Chief Visionary at Kong Academy. He is a monkey and he loves to play! He has been trained and worked as a physical therapy assistant, paramedic, personal trainer, lifeguard, parkour instructor, and as a special education teacher. He started working with kids when he was 13 and he is passionate about helping people improve their minds, bodies, and spirits. Curt connects with kids at their level and he speaks their language of play and movement. That's why his teaching is so impactful: it's meaningful and relevant to kids' lives.
Curt believes the simplest thing you can do when you're upset as a child or an adult is to, Say how you feel and ask for what you need.

Welcome Back, Parents! Today's special guest is Michele Benyo!
She's with us today to talk about how to help young children with grief, including how young children grieve, the truth about what children need from adults when they're grieving, the fact that childhood is the best time to learn about grief, and specific tips for adults to help young children grieve.
Michele is a mom of two, a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, an early childhood parent coach, and the founder of Good Grief Parenting. After her 6-year-old son died of cancer, her 3-year-old daughter said, “Mommy, half of me is gone.” This heartbreaking statement defined Michele’s life purpose. Her mission is twofold: to help parents through the unimaginable challenges of parenting while grieving the death of a child, and to help parents meet the unique needs of a child who has lost a sibling in the early childhood years. The desire of Michele’s heart is to see families live forward after loss toward a future bright with possibilities and even joy.

My guest today is Brian Frederick!
Brian a children's book author who aims to bring more joy into the world, for children (and for the adults who love them) so that they can live happier lives filled with more kindness.
Brian is a proponent of finding the goodness in life. He shares the value of that philosophy through children’s stories. In his books he hopes to entertain children and show them a world of kindness, joy and wonder.
Monday through Friday finds Brian as the lawyer at the helm of a commercial mediation services company. His work encourages solving disputes peacefully. This ideal carries over to the philosophy he shares in his children’s books.
Asked about his philosophy of life as a writer, Brian said:
“I don’t know if stories for children can change the world, but I hope they can make it a little better – certainly for my readers.
I hope I can bring a little more joy into the world, and a little more truth and kindness.
I do care that these and other important things are often in short supply when they needn’t be. Maybe my readers and I can change that together…”
In a previous life, Brian made back page headlines in his home country as a record breaking swimmer. He was once dubbed ""the hottest property in Irish Swimming"" and some of his records stood for more than 30 years. He took several international caps representing Ireland abroad, before ""extra-curricular"" activities became more alluring in his late teens.
You Only Dine Twice... Brian has enjoyed both breakfast and dinner (twice) with both James Bond and Vanessa Redgrave...
The last thing Brian did before lockdown was to have a pizza with an Oscar winner and his wife..."

Welcome Back Parents! Happy Love Month!
Today's guest Andrea Brand is a great resource for parents as you navigate those tricky conversations about sex, body image and hormones!
Andrea Brand is a passionate proponent of comprehensive sex education and helping parents embrace their role as open, trusty resources for their kids.
Her work as a life coach focuses on supporting women interested in trading-in feelings of overwhelm for confidence and contentment. She worked for decades in public health, initially in direct care and then as a research consultant to impact programs and policy. After exploring her own inner conflict that resulted from the competing demands of a fast-paced corporate culture and life outside of the office, she stepped away from her career to evaluate her priorities and focus on what matters most to her: family, interpersonal connections, and living authentically. This reconnected her back to work promoting sex education as well as helping others live more purposefully.
Andrea holds MSW and MPH degrees from the University of Michigan and is also a certified life coach. Now an empty nester, she resides in Massachusetts with her husband and dog.
