Welcome to another episode of No Problem Parenting's Mindset & Motivation Mondays!
Today, we're acknowledging the influence of our self-talk, specifically those disempowering 'I can't' statements that often show up in our parenting responses and conversations, especially when our energy is drained. I will share the profound change that occurs when we intentionally shift our language including my own “I can’t story”.
In our daily conversations, especially in parenting, 'I can't' tends to be a default response. But what if it's not about our capabilities? What if it's more about our fears, worries, or preferences.
Consider the last time you said 'I can't' in response to a parenting situation or anytime really. Was it genuinely about capability, or was it really covering up a different emotion or preference? Recognizing this distinction is the first step. It's about understanding that 'I can't' might actually mean 'I'm scared,' 'I prefer not to,' ‘I don’t know how’ or 'I need support.

Welcome to 'Self Care Sundays,' on the No Problem Parenting podcast.
Sundays often signify a day to rest and recharge before the start of a new week. We will focus on self-care for parents and give you ideas on being more intentional about caring for yourself to better care for your kids. We’ll sprinkle in some episodes of self-care for kids too.
Today’s resources are about what we put in and on our bodies that help us feel good from the inside out and outside in.
How do you do self care? What does self care mean for you?
Self Care can be whatever makes you smile and fills your cup. I encourage you to Intentionally Do something kind for yourself, rest and rejuvenate.
My favorite resource for knowing which foods and products are better than others is the
Healthy Living EWG environmental working group FREE App : EWG Healthy Living on apple or on google play here: EWG Healthy Living app on google play
From snacks to shampoos: We’re exposed to chemicals every second, yet we know very little about them. To help you learn about the foods and products you’re bringing into your home and make safer choices, EWG created the Healthy Living App which has trusted ratings for more than 160,000 food, cleaning and cosmetics products are at your fingertips.
Just scan a barcode, search the product by name or browse by category, and EWG will give you an easy-to-understand 1 to 10 score (1 being the best!), backed by science you can trust.
The free app helps you feel confident in what you are bringing into your home. And its fun to teach your kids and teens about the Healthy Living app, download it to their phone or tablet and let them scan products when you’re shopping too!
It's not just about food and skincare; it’s about the things we are breathing in everyday that we might not even know are toxic. Think laundry detergent, fabric softeners and perfume for instance.
The average American adult uses about 12 personal care products a day, resulting in exposure to an average of 168 unique chemicals. Children are also exposed to products containing risky chemicals during critical stages of childhood development. As these products range from toothpaste to makeup, it is easy for companies to conceal harmful chemicals that risk American livelihoods.
Chemicals in beauty and personal care products have been linked to a variety of health concerns.
Learn more and receive 20% off safer skin care products for you, and the whole family and/or Join the company as an advocate and receive 40% off. This is a limited time offer so check it out today. https://www.beautycounter.com/noproblemparents and check it out.
And to learn more about ingredient safety, legislation and how we can turn negative perception into positive actions listen in as my favorite safer beauty advocate Andee has teamed up with fellow mom Aimee in a new podcast called Coast to the Heart Podcast. Episodes drop on Mondays.
The greatest gift you can give to your children is to nurture yourself so that you won’t need your kiddos to do that for you.

EP 220 Social Saturdays: The Benefits of Parent/Child Play & Tips for All Ages
Saturday Jan 06, 2024
Saturday Jan 06, 2024
Welcome to our first "Social Saturdays" episode on the "No Problem Parenting Podcast.
"What are the benefits of parent/child play, and how can you make it awesome for kids of all ages and for you the parent?"
A study in the Journal of Marriage and Family revealed that shared leisure activities, including play, are linked to greater satisfaction in family relationships. So, there's more to play than just about keeping kids busy or entertained.
Play Builds Curiosity, Trust, and Connection – If you are finding yourself yelling all the time, play is a great way to stop feeding the problems in your home with anger and frustration and setting the tone in your home to be more fun and joyful. Kids don’t want you to yell, but if seeing you yell is the only excitement or animation they get from you, you might notice they are pushing your buttons to gain your attention even if it is negative attention.
You are the leader of your home and can shift the tone in your home and today I’m going to give you some ideas for how to do that with infants to teens.
When you actively engage in play with your children, whether it's peek-a-boo, building LEGO towers, constructing forts, or even pretending to be superheroes, you create a foundation of curiosity, trust, and connection that lasts a lifetime.
Check out my conversation with Curt Jordan from Kong Academy in EP 50. Curt is one of the authors in our first book, NPP Raising your kiddos with more confidence and less fear. His chapter is titled Let Kids Play Their Way and I’ve included a link in the show notes for more ideas on how a family can beat the winter blues. Lots of fun adventure ideas that you can access right from your home! Have the Winter Blues? Check out Kong Academys
How a Family Can Beat the Winter Blues Adventures HERE
Play isn't just for the kiddos; it's a fantastic stress-buster for parents too. Even just 15 minutes of imaginative play can be a mini-vacation from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Play is an opportunity to let your guard down, be silly with your kids, no matter their age. Even teens can't resist a good laugh when mom or dad are being silly
Let’s be intentional about playing with our kids. What if you looked forward to playtime with your kids as much as you look forward to hanging out with friends? Playtime, even with teens doesn't have to always mean going somewhere. There are plenty of activities you can do right at home.
Make playtime a non-negotiable in your schedule. It can become an anticipated moment of joy in your routine. Again, Even if it's just 15 minutes, set your timer, fully engage with your kids during that time, and watch the magic unfold.
Glenn Lundy shared in EP 172 why we should Stop spending time with our family and invest the time instead.
Here are three tips to keep in mind:
1. Be Present and Engaged: Put away distractions and go all in, in the playtime experience with your child. Being present shows your child that you value and enjoy the time spent together.
2. Follow Their Lead: Allow your child to take the lead in play. Follow their interests and cues, even if it means stepping into their imaginative world. This encourages their creativity and strengthens the bond and connection between you and your child. Ask open-ended questions to learn more about their ideas and check your ego at the door. Playtime is not about knowing more than your child, do your best to let your child know more than you so respond with questions like “I wonder if…..” instead of telling them why something they are doing won’t work.
3. Quality Over Quantity: It's not about the duration of playtime; it's about the quality of interaction. Even if you have limited time, make those moments count. Choose activities that your child is interested in, and focus on creating positive, memorable experiences. Quality playtime even if rare, leaves a lasting impact on your relationship on your child. The more opportunity you have to play with your child, the more you invest in time with your child, the less problems you will encounter as they grow.
Listen in today as I share some playtime examples for children of different age groups.

Welcome to Tech and Teaching Tuesdays!
In this episode, we tackle the crucial question: How can you ensure your child’s online safety? Join me as I share technology tips tailored for toddlers to teens.
We kick things off by acknowledging the expansive digital landscape our kids are growing up in, moving beyond mere screen time management to establish early childhood boundaries. In middle childhood, the focus shifts to fostering critical thinking and online etiquette, utilizing the "Three W's" - Who, What, and Why - as a powerful tool for guiding your child's online behavior. Consider taping these questions as a friendly reminder inside the cover of their tablet or in their playroom.
Venturing into adolescence, a time of heightened emotions and rapid changes, we emphasize the significance of open communication and privacy awareness. Creating a digital contract with your teen, as discussed in Episode 12 and reiterated today, becomes a valuable tool outlining expectations, consequences, and fostering collaboration.
For those eager to dig deeper into tech safety and communication strategies, check out Episodes 12 and 13 of No Problem Parenting. Additionally, Episode 24 introduces an alternative to screens with Drew Vernon from Tonies.com, offering a screen-free, imagination-building experience for your little ones.
Stay tuned for our next episode, where we'll explore the delicate balance of determining the right amount of screen time for your child. Ensuring our children's online safety may be tricky, but putting in the effort early on will save you frustration in the long run. Remember, preparing our kids for the digital world is one of the most important parenting jobs in this digital era. It's the future, and we want to celebrate it more than fear it.
As a bonus resource, consider exploring Learning Success Academy's Teen Coaching for Success and Empowerment. Their ICF accredited coaches specialize in helping teens overcome achievement blockers. Until the next episode, take care, and let's continue the journey of raising tech-savvy, safe kiddos together! 🚀✨

Welcome Back, No-Problem Parents, to our first Mindset and Motivation Mondays episode!
Happy New Year!
Question:
Does the new year truly offer a blank canvas? Is it a magical chance to redefine our goals, strengthen our mindset, and set the tone for the months ahead, for ourselves and our families? I firmly believe it can be, especially when we embrace optimism in the face of challenges.
Here's what we're talking about today:
Attitude:
- Embracing optimism in the face of challenges.
- Fostering a positive mindset through daily affirmations and self-acceptance.
- Choosing confidence in your abilities as a parent.
Intentional Time Management:
-
Setting optimistic intentions for the year ahead.
-
Prioritizing quality family time through intentional planning.
-
Using intentional moments to strengthen family bonds.
Last Year Review:
-
Reflecting on the past year with an optimistic lens.
-
Acknowledging lessons learned and growth achieved in 2023.
-
Celebrating personal and family achievements.
Todays Mindset and Motivation Tip:
Start a family gratitude journal. Each day (or week), take a moment to share and write down something you're grateful for. Have each family member do this. You can even appoint one person to be the notetaker or gratitude text collector. This simple practice can shift your family focus towards positivity and a sense of appreciation within the family.
