Welcome to another episode of No Problem Parenting's Mindset & Motivation Mondays!
Today, we're acknowledging the influence of our self-talk, specifically those disempowering 'I can't' statements that often show up in our parenting responses and conversations, especially when our energy is drained. I will share the profound change that occurs when we intentionally shift our language including my own “I can’t story”.
In our daily conversations, especially in parenting, 'I can't' tends to be a default response. But what if it's not about our capabilities? What if it's more about our fears, worries, or preferences.
Consider the last time you said 'I can't' in response to a parenting situation or anytime really. Was it genuinely about capability, or was it really covering up a different emotion or preference? Recognizing this distinction is the first step. It's about understanding that 'I can't' might actually mean 'I'm scared,' 'I prefer not to,' ‘I don’t know how’ or 'I need support.
